The Leicester Yeoman was opened in the 14th of September 1961 to serve the proliferation of new houses in the area around the Mowmacre Estate. It later to changed its name to The Last Straw.
Once a thriving pub, as with most large estate pubs by the 1990s, it had lost its way. It became part of the Punch Taverns group and the site was more valuable as investment land. In 2004, Kentucky Fried Chicken put in planning for a fast food outlet and its demise seemed imminent. Leicester was losing another out of town pub a victim of under investment and valuable land.
