November 1857, Elizabeth Billson transferred her licence to Henry Gisboure.
1861 Directory lists Nags Head at no 18 Belgrave Gate
1864 Gisbourne licence was objected to due to the company of character by the inhabitants of Belgrave Gate.
Henry was refused a wine & spirit licence to go with his beerhouse 1867.
Due to declining trade and the fact the owner had sold the property on he had been forced to sell his business and subsequently auctioned off all of the furniture and fittings, 1874.
Some confusion as to no 18 as c1881 William Holyoake ‘freethinker’ and founder member of the Secular Society in Leicester ran a book shop from no 18, but 1883 Directory shows a boot & shoe manufacture, To add to the confusion no 8 is a wine & spirit shop.
At the time there was licensed premises for every 300 people in Leicester plus 170 beer houses.
