The Balmoral was built circa 1892. A Robinson’s Brewery house until acquired by Ind Coope circa 1920. Shortly before the landlord was fined for selling beer at a price exceeding the maximum, contrary to the beer and price order bought in during the first war.

Photo above was taken in 1990. I suppose this was one of the first locals frequented mainly by Indians in the area. I called in some lunchtimes and I found it just the same as many locals, old boys ‘chewing the fat’ only nearly all Indian. We had so much in common, not sure if we accepted them or they accepted us, but it works, Leicester is a good example of harmony.
