(Continued from previous file Brunswick Brewery)
Report on recommending the closure of the Brunswick Brewery, controversially for no other reason than an urge to cut down on the number of pubs.
Ernest Clayton, the licensee, claimed the pub was still trading well. Indeed Superintendent Bott said it was the finest pub in the street and shouldn’t be the one to close.
Nevertheless, on the 23rd of December 1914, the magistrates rubber stamped the recommendations and closed the Brunswick Arms. £1379 paid to the brewery and £160 to the tenant in compensation.
