This was an ex South Leicester Working men’s club, as the fashion for working men’s clubs began to wane many closed altogether but the South Leicester was to re-invent itself as the Half Time Orange music venue, opening in March 1998.
Handily situated near Leicester City Football Club, where it no doubt took its name from the old football ritual of supplying a portion of orange at half time, on match days trade was no problem. In the evenings, its former concert room became one of Leicester’s top venues for rock and pop bands. The venues was owned by Everards.
Half Time Orange closed for a while, only to re-emerge as Symphony.
Photo above was taken in 2013. The pub is now open for limited hours, although remains busy on match days and is also used as a venue for parties and special functions.
