BIRD IN HAND, CAUSEWAY LANE

A Bird in Hand is recorded in the 1791 Directory in Causeway Lane, John Smith was listed as the landlord.

For Sale, 1802 Three freehold messuages or tenements adjoining in Causeway Lane, one of which is a public house the Bird in Hand occupied by Samuel Watts as tenant at will,

In 1808, a newspaper entry describes the Bird in Hand in Causeway Lane as having a stocking makers shop attached to the premises.

1930’s pic of Causeway Lane no idea which end but sign on wall of building, what attracted me to the photo was the ad which states ‘Under the spreading chestnut tree a pint of Guinness stood’ etc
