On the banks of the River Soar, Russell’s opened in December 1999, named after the former factory it is housed in.
Became Bishops Blaise by circa 2004, mostly used by younger and student clientele. Its name was dragged into the mud in March 2005 when a seventeen year old girl was raped by another customer outside the pub.
But by April 2014, plans were made for change of use of ground floor to seven flats.
This fine old hosiery factory, mainly occupied by Benjamin Russell’s Hosiery Co. for a hundred years from 1886-1986, shows that with a little imagination our industrial heritage can be maintained.
