MARKET BAR – TRENCHERMAN – ROBIN’S NEST, FREEMANS COMMON

Photo above taken in 1994.

Built on the new Freemans Common complex, circa 1970s.  It had an early opening hours licence for the fruit and vegetable market – this was before all day drinking (pubs then only opened mostly from 11am-2pm and 6pm -11pm), so this was very handy if you wanted a drink at 6am.

In 2015 Trencherman dropped, just Market Café & Bar. Two years later it was opened as a cafe bar, called Robin’s Nest and is still very much open for business.

  1. The Trencherman started trading in the 1960s as a cafe, restaurant and licenced bar (freehouse). Beers supplied by Everards and Shipstones. It had always had a publicans licence but only did licence trade from 11am to about 230pm until approx 1986 when a market licence was applied for which allowed serving from 6am.
