In 1485, Chantry of Corpus Chrsti received 6d rent from the George, but a George was also recorded in Swinesmarket (High Street).
In 1600, the George described as being on the corner of Friar Lane and Hotel Street.
In 1763 the George was described as situated at the angle of Hotel Street and Friar Lane.
Corporation receipts of 1771 show a rent of four shillings for a tenement at the corner of Friar Lane ‘lately known by the sign of the George’ in the occupation of John Pocklington. He was Alderman Coroner and future mayor of Leicester (1778).
