MAYFLOWER, GERVAS ROAD

Stood on the corner of no. 1 Gervas and Ocean Road, opened on the 18th of December 1957.

A typical 1950s design pub on the newly built Thurnby Lodge Estate.  The licence was transferred from the Earl Grey in Ashwell Steet. This photograph was  taken shortly after its opening (see photo above).

One of the few out of town pubs to survive into the new millennium. Above the Mayflower looking good, It is curious to see so many of the 1950s era pubs falling to redevelopment. Sadly, as of writing, 2018 the Mayflower is now closed and earmarked for demolition. Originally the architecture decried by many, but I have grown to like it, very few of this design now left, is it too much to hope the building itself survives.
