Very little known of this pub other than a crime report in the local press in September 1838 with the headline ‘Disorderly House.’ A charge was made against Mrs. Craythorne of the Holy Friar having a disorderly house. She was cautioned for her future conduct and warned that the beer house would be under surveillance. In October 1838, the landlord of the Holy Friar, now Edward Kilbourn was fined £1 and expenses for allowing drinking in his house during the hours of divine service on Sunday morning, this not being the first time he had contravened this law.
Recorded also as Bath Lane, which indicated the pub was on one of the corners crossing Bath Lane and Friars Causeway.
