Opened in 1988, by Ind Coope as part of a new image, housed in a former bank. This was an up-market project for the surrounding business community and shoppers.
It didn’t quite work and in 1993, was refurbished to be called the Goose on Hotel Street, catering mainly for the younger market.
On Christmas Eve 2008, a riot occurred at the Goose in Hotel Street, when twenty men forced past the doormen, broke the doors and smashed the windows causing major damage.
In January 2013, it became The Friary.
