PHOENIX, KING STREET

In April 1833, Moses Pegg laid information against Rhoda Warden of the Phoenix, King Street, in breach of the Beer Act. Strong evidence was offered for Rhoda’s defence, allied to the fact that Pegg’s collaborating witness failed to turn up (Pegg claimed he was indisposed in the Royal Infirmary).  The case was quashed.

In the 1841 census John Ferrar was listed as victualler, King Street.

In September 1842, John Ferrar, landlord of the Phoenix, applied for and was granted a loan from the Sir Thomas White fund.

White’s 1846 Directory had John Ferrar still as licensee.
