DUN COW, MANSFIELD STREET

There is one record of the auction of the Dun Cow in Mansfield Street, together with the nearly new brewing equipment and vessels, the property of Joseph Ellicock.(LC), June 1833.

The only other records of Joseph Ellicock is in Church Gate (Mansfield Street runs off Church Gate).  Joseph was prominent in the FWK (Framework Knitters) committee in 1821.  M/C were sold from his house.

In June 1826, Joseph was a signature in the thanking of Otway Cave MP (see Independent Otway – Cave, Belgrave Gate) when Cave donated £50 to the FWK fund to help alleviate their suffering.  A motion was passed thanking Otway Cave, and urging all FWK to vote for him in the forthcoming elections.

It seems the Dun Cow was short lived – or it might have changed its name to the George & Dragon.
