The Hogshead chain of pubs opened in Leicester, for which planning had been given to Bass Taverns circa 1996. Situated next door to Wilkies and believed to be owned by the Laurel Group, who also bought the Slug & Lettuce chain circa 2007. The Hogshead was initially a success.
I’m not one for these branding of pub names – you could be in any city. Unimaginative, I think. No individual identity, if given the choice between a ‘branded’ pub and a ‘local’ I know which I would chose every time. At least Wetherspoons research the local areas history.

In a surprise move, the Slug & Lettuce closed down in October 2017, re-emerging within a few weeks as the Distillery, the name reflecting a new trend in bars, the Slug & Lettuce brand having grown tired.
