PROHIBITION. NIKKI’S – BLUE ELEPHANT. MICHAELANGELO’S – OLD COW – THE CHAPEL. REVOLUTION LEICESTER, NEW WALK

This was known as Nikki’s circa 1990, prior to the Old Cow. it was known as Blue Elephant then Michaelangelo’s.

In the late 70’s – 80’s I believe it was the Prohibition club, I did go a few times, bar and entertainment upstairs, if any one can confirm or otherwise let us know. I did see Dave Berry there once who had a hit with the song “The Crying Game” in 1964, he sang it that night at the Prohibition c1980 still milking it all those years later.

This membership card (c1979-80) sent in by Steve Collishaw, so thanks to Steve to confirm I wasn’t dreaming.

The Old Cow opened in July 1994 in what previously was the Blue Elephant Thai Restaurant. and then Michelangelo’s, It lasted a couple of years before becoming part of The Chapel.

New owners bought ex Chapel and Barkers, the printers next door.  They extended the premises and opened circa 1999.

  1. Worked at nikkies nightclub in the 90s with it having a French restaurant downstairs before it changed to the blue elephant.
Nightclub changed name to Michaelangelo and the old cow.
    Great memories working there

    1. I believe my father was the owner of prohibition club in the late seventies!

      1. Hi, Just speaking to my dad, he owned it with 2 others from June 11th 76. With Ron Allan, Robert Edwards and Roger Le-Butt. This was a lease, it went bankrupt, then my dad and uncle brought the freehold.

  2. My dad use to.own the Prohibition. Remember going down Sunday mornings, when dad was checking the place, we use to pick the seats up to collect the change that fell out of pickets that week. Also going in the DJ box where Paul had all his toys. Remember playing on the instruments and being told off. Then seeing when I was older in 86 AB and the boogie band.

      1. My Dad owned it 81/82. Fond memories Sunday mornings playing barmaid with the mixers.
