February 1993, saw the opening of the Mosquito Coast World Music Bar by Andy & John Hussain, in the building that had been occupied by the Secret Jazz Company.
The Hussain Brothers were at the forefront of innovative licensed outlets, having also owned Café Bruxelles, Dos Hermanos, Barceleneta, Pump & Tap, and Bar Guadi. During the 1990s, Mosquito Coast (the ‘Mosie’), was immensely popular with new music mixed with great oldies. Eventually, when the Hussains reorganised their operations it became the Mosh nightclub.
Mosh – mainly a nightclub. Next door is the basement bar, Bar Gaudi (see below), where you can have a drink – mostly used before entering Mosh.
Opened in 1994 a year after Mosquito Coast, and in the same building.
Note: St Nicholas Circle, St Nicholas Place, St Nicholas Square – all refer to the same area having the name changed at different development times.
