A Cat is recorded in the 1744 Recognizance Orders, and also a Cat Spinning Time in 1741.
The only clue to its whereabouts is in a deed of 1823 when four properties were built on the site of the old Cat on the corner of Southgate Street and Friar Lane.

My Grandmother had a shop on the corner of Friar Lane & Southgate Street which was I believe a beer off licence she left around 1942
Alan yes an off licence stood on corner of Southgate st/Friar Lane for over 100 years, but I am yet to tie it in as an old beerhouse, needs more research, but thanks for your interest and comment.
