VULCAN ARMS, VULCAN ROAD

Chris Jinks came across a Vulcan Arms beerhouse in some old deeds circa 1880.

There were two beer retailers in directories covering Vulcan Road in 1883, Chris thinks below is the one called the Vulcan Arms ran by R. D. Bland – no 15, on the corner of Vulcan Road/Upper Charnwood Street.  The property was sold as a beer off-licence in 1896.  Bland was still occupying, paying 30/- per annum rent – so there is little evidence of a full licence although could be one of those to graduate from beer offie to grocer.

Prior to demolition circa 1970.

Standing opposite corner on Vulcan/Upper Charnwood Street was another beer retailer.
