DRAYMAN, BEDFORD STREET

In June 1840, James Wootton was charged with assaulting Dominic Lucas in the Drayman beerhouse, Bedford Street.  Lucas said he went in to fetch his wife who was drinking with Wotton, and a fight ensued between the two men. In court it was discovered that Lucas wasn’t actually married to the women, so the case was dismissed.

In June 1841, it was advertised that ‘a beer house  situated in Bedford Street, known by the sign of the Drayman’ was to be sold by auction at the Bell Inn Leicester, from the estate of Thomas Cooper Goodrich, deceased.
