A couple of references of this beerhouse. It was either at an unknown location in Brunswick Street or it changed its name.
Dorothy Creswell informed on the landlord John James, in November 1833. She came across twenty-thirty men fighting outside the Brickmakers with the landlord and his wife observing the goings on. Creswell asked if she could have some ale, which Jones duly obliged, and bought some outside. She could see ten or twelve disorderly men inside, some fighting. This was all taking place outside of normal hours. Jones disputed Creswell’s version of events but was fined 40/-.
In the 1841 census John Jones’ profession listed as a bricklayer, hence the beer house’s name. 1846 Jones was still residing as landlord at the Brickmakers Arms.
