VINE, NORTHGATE STREET

A couple of reference to a Vine Northgate Street.

April 1835, “a meeting of The Auxiliary Conservative Society will be held  at Mr Larratts Vine Northgate St in the coming week, meeting starts o’ clock”.

September 1836, at the small debts court D. Larratt v G Coulson, Mrs Larratt claimed 15/- for rent money and accommodation of pawning some of Mrs Larratts clothing.  Coulson claimed that Larratt had given her ½ pint of ale for her trouble of taking the clothes. When Mrs Larratt was accused of lying she retorted “ My dear friend d’ye think I’d forswear myself and my poor baby lying a corpse in the house at this time” The commissioners dismissed the case due to lack of corroboration of any witness.

Looks like an early beerhouse that didn’t last long as can find no other references at this time.
