NEVER ON A SUNDAY (WINE BAR), NEW BOND STREET

Although I was aware of a wine bar in this street, being a traditional pub man I never stepped foot inside. It must have been in the 1980s, but please correct me if I’m wrong and any more information would be grateful.

It was well tucked away after the Haymarket development cutting off over half of the street.

We don’t usually include Bistros as such, but as have never been inside I can’t vouch for it, but its well worth including  especially as one of Leicester’s own and best known and popular Blues guitarists Jeff Overon once played there, he even posted a poster from the 1980s on facebook.

Jeff was known throughout all the music venues and pubs in Leicester, playing from the 1970s through to circa 2016.

He played at the Shed, Donkey, Musician, Town Arms, White Swan, we had him at the Vaults in 1990s, plus many many pubs to numerous to mention, so if you attended a pub music session you probably encountered Geoff Overon, either solo or a guest with other bands, Blues/Jazz/Folk, so in essence Geoff is part of Leicester Pub History.

The Wine Bar went through a few different business of cafés etc. There are in my collection somewhere photos of later cafes that occupied the premises, if only I could find them.

New Bond Street as it was prior to Haymarket.

New Bond Street, continuation of East Bond Street, now a dead end. On this later map (bottom) it doesn’t even give it a name. No longer through to High Street, unless you go through rear of  Haymarket shopping centre.
