Lovely photo of the era L.R.O.
William Baker’s Refreshment House would be the central building with the date 1794, over the arched gateway, and the photo covers his time there.
At present we know little of William Baker, only his entries into the directories of the period where he is listed as a ‘Refreshment House keeper’ also selling Wine, being classed as a wine dealer, as well as being a baker and confectioner, presumably his shop is front centre. He is there from circa 1870s into the 1900s. His position in High Street would be around where the present Café Bruxelles is now.
