JOINERS ARMS, 23 CHATHAM STREET

There are various references to the Joiners Arms: On the 7th of June 1854, a newspaper article mentions a militia man’s coat being stolen from the Joiners in Chatham Street.

The Joiners brewed its own beer. In 1860, the pub was to be auctioned, advertised with its own brew house and soft water supply.

The indications are it was a reasonable size, as William Gimson and his wife, Mary, who ran the beer house in 1861 had six other lodgers there.

Ralf Askham was licensee in 1900.

It is thought the pub closed within the next few years.
