TOWER MILL INN, 42 UPPER CONDUIT STREET

This mid Victorian pub closed in 1908, when the licence was surrendered by Leicester Brewing and Malting Brewery in exchange for an off-licence in Bonchurch Street, George Southam being the licensee.

In the early 1850s William Smith was victualler.  The Leicester Chronicle reported the inn being up for auction on the 26th of April 1879, together with its brew house, stables, loft, yard, gateway and outbuildings.

Oliver Abbot was victualler in 1886, transferring to George Meadwell that year.  Sarah Rose was given one month hard labour for stealing a coat from Tower Mill in 1887. A year later Fred Hill was summoned for being drunk and disorderly in the Tower Mill and refusing to leave when asked by landlord George Meadwell.  Fined £1 or 14 days.
