FLORES – BARRINGTONS – WHITE PEACOCK, 16 KING STREET/NEW WALK

Walshies: a Chinese Restaurant whose address was 16 King Street, but really just inside New Walk. It became Flores circa 2007, a tapas and real ale bar, housed in a sumptuous listed Georgian Building.  This didn’t really take off, and became Barringtons circa 2010.  Listed as a wine bar, but like its predecessor sold real ale with more traditional food. This was not to last long either – it seems that the many attempts to upmarket new ventures failed in Leicester.  Maybe the timing wasn’t right, especially in the economic downturn at the time, or perhaps it never had its own identity, neither one thing nor another.

By 2013, this had become the White Peacock.   Independently owned, and headed by chef Phillip Sharpe, this was again an attempt to go upmarket, with dress code.  Not sure if Leicester is the right place: it is a hard market but we wish it well.
