BRAUNSTONE HOTEL – THE BRAUNSTONE – JESTERS, NARBOROUGH ROAD

Traded from circa 1925.  A trip out of town to the Braunstone was a treat for families: by car if you were well off, or more likely motor or push bike.

Another atmospheric photo from Everards collection.
1950s winter scene. The Braunstone standing aloof, with major expansion yet to come.

Then during the 1970s, all changed with a major refurb and the opening of ‘Jesters Cabaret rooms’, making the Braunstone the place to go.

The restaurant, decked out in Edwardian décor.
In the 1970s-80s, the Jesters flourished with a cabaret room that held over three hundred seated customers.  Entrance fee was 40p, Tuesday – Thursday, 50p Friday-Saturday.

A shock was in store, however, as Everards obtained planning permission to ‘develop’ the site, the pub was to build three retail outlets on the site.

The Braunstone finally closed August the 27th 2001, boarded up within days. A once thriving outlet worth more as an investment opportunity for Everards property arm.
