SOLDIERS RETURN, OXFORD STREET

Chris Pyrah records a Soldiers Return in his research and was located in Horsepool (Oxford Street) in 1815.

There is also a record of a Soldiers Return in August 1813, when a Sergeant Norman was housed there recruiting for the Leicester militia. 

REQUIRED A number of Recruits for His Majesty’s Regiment Infantry, Growing lads under 19 years, 5ft 2″ and men 5ft 4″ will meet with a liberal bounty. present pay and good quarters.

Unfortunately, no address was given. As there was other Soldiers Return in Clarence St and Abbey St.
