SAWERS ARMS, SANVEY GATE

In April 1832, William Stevenson, keeper of the Sayers Arms, Sanvey Gate, was charged by Constable Moore of having company in his house between the hours of 11-12pm, those present including intoxicated women. Stevenson admitted having people in his house after 10pm, but asserted that he neither drew any beer, and none was drunk, the beer having been previously drawn.

It was stated by the bench, however, that to have company in the house after 10pm was a breach of the 1830 Act, whether they were drinking or not.
