An 1849 Directory gives a Red Cow in Bakehouse Lane, situated on the corner, coming from Southgate St. Later directories name the Red Cow as in Redcross Street.
William Clarke, victualler of the Red Cow in Redcross Street, between Bakehouse Lane and Bonners Yard, was licensed to let Horses for hire.
