WARWICK CASTLE, 57 BROOK STREET

At number 57 stood the grand sounding Warwick Castle.  In truth, Brook Street was one of the many terraced streets off of Wharf Street.

JRs lists of licensees (including some from Brewster sessions): 1867, Robert Farrar. 1869, William Hartopp. 1870, Benjamin Frisby. 1871, Edwin Riley. 1873, William Richards. 1881, Dave Richards. 1894, George Dexter. 1900, George White (deceased). 1908, Jane White (from January to April, from April until November, licence held by (?) Nov 1908, Albert Raynes.

Closed circa 1912, when licence was refused.  Compensation £777-8/- paid to the brewer Offilers, with £105 going to Albert Raynes, the tenant. (MB) in his History of Leicestershire Brewers states that the Warwick Castle was owned prior to Offilers by George Eatons Cavendish Bridge Brewery.
