BUTCHERS ARMS, 40 CHURCH GATE

Originally an unnamed beer house, it became known as the Butchers’ Arms when the Murdy family who had a butchers shop next door ran it.

James Murdy was there circa 1854.

In 1879, saw William Murdy apply for a wine on licence at the Brewster sessions.

The Butchers’ was a Thomas  Robinson’s (from Burton-on-Trent), Brewery House.

The Butchers’ finally closed on the 10th of February 1926.
