There are a couple of entries regarding an Evans Arms in Duke Street.

In November 1833, John Peake, victualler was fined 10/- for having the Evans Arms open after hours.  Charged by Moses Pegg, informer, regardless of witnesses John Thornton and William Freason who stated they left Evans Arms before 10pm and heard door locked behind them. Freason even claimed he was refused a pint before the official closing time.

Quite a few references in 1843 regarding Ratepayers Association meetings at the Evans Arms, Duke Street.
