Sometimes referred to as being on Rutherford Road.
Magpie & Stump opened 1984, renamed keepers Lodge 2016, the name Magpie & Stump comes from a ‘name the pub competition’ ran by the brewery the winning entry was by a lady who named it due to the prominence of Magpies in the area. (Chris Pyrah)
I ran the Magpie & Stump from Nov 1986 and spent 14 eventful years there making many close friends (and a few enemies) the pub had an undeserved “rough” reputation but raised many thousands of pounds for numerous charities, In Feb 2000 I moved to the Coach & Horses in Anstey my final pub until my retirement in 2012,
Great insight Chris, after all those years as landlord YOU SURVIVED let us know any anecdotes!! Thanks
I moved to Beaumont Leys in 2007 and it was already the Keeper’s Lodge but I don’t know when the name change actually happened.
