SWAN & FISH, FROG ISLAND

1794, 1822, 1830 and 1831 Directories.

An apt name for being so close to the river, listed with having piggeries in the yard during the end of the 18th century. 

Richard Wilson was the victualler around this time.

Swan & Fish auctioned in March 1813, listed as the house of John Lewis, with adjoining house occupied by Joseph Smith, worsted spinner.

In August 1813, the Leicester Militia held a recruitment drive here. 

The Swan & Fish hosted an auction in October 1815, of three valuable spindle spinning frames, one eight spinning rover, one breaker down, two one spindle frames and seven other frames, all without reserve.

In April 1829, Mrs. Lewis charged customer Robert Woods with assault.

Also that month John Lewis advertised the Swan & Fish to let.

In August 1836, Mr. Daft of the Swan & Fishers offered a wager of between £5-£20 to any other county team at cricket.

The Swan & Fish was auctioned off on its own premises on the 24th of February 1838.  It was described as having a tap room, parlour, bar, four beds, cellar, brew house. good stables and a baker’s oven.
