BUNCH OF GRAPES – GRAPES – ALLENS, 2 GALLOWTREE GATE

Stood on the South East corner of Humberstone Gate.

Originally Bunch of Grapes, Grapes and then Allens after the then owner. 

The Allen family were landlords from circa 1843 when John Allen followed by John Junior were victulars, the name stuck and was known as Allens right up to its closure. 

Owned by the Pierpoint family, circa 1900, when it had a six day licence.

Fined for selling beer above the recommended strength, under the deception order in 1919.

The pub closed voluntarily in 1926, being demolished later that year to make way for the new Burtons, the tailors.
