The original Naseby was bought in 1897, by LBM Brewery from John Green & Alf Sherriff. It was built on the site of an old beer offie.
It was rebuilt in the Art Deco style (one of only a few of this type in Leicester), when adjoining land was purchased in 1936-7.
Unfortunately closed in 1988, when the new tenant of a couple of weeks was fire bombed out of the premises by some local villains. The pub then found it hard to attract new tenants and was sold off with an asking price of £150.000. It then turned into retail shops and offices.
The “Naz” was my local, my mam said it was a goldmine during the war. The Naz had darts and table skittles teams after the games the teams received.
Most of the users came from the Northfields- old and young. There was a bar on the front left and a longe/smoke room on the right.
At the rear there was a glass covered area for kids and an outside toilet. There was never a light in the men’s toilet and a man complained to me that he sat on the toilet seat and someone had painted it blue.
As kids we used to ‘ penny for the guy’ outside.
I mainly used it for the fist couple of pints before going uptown to drinking in the tavern, L’boro befoe going Adam and Eve.
