ROSE & THISTLE, LONDON ROAD

Reported as situated in the Oadby side of the toll gate opposite Victoria Park, between Old Horse and Evington Lane circa 1830s.

It certainly was a house of trouble, as the early newspaper reports of the 1830s & 40s suggest.  Thomas Orton was victualler during 1830s.

The following are excerpts from the newspaper court reports.

From Leicester Chronicle 22nd February 1840

From the Leicester Mercury 22 September 1838
Leicester Mercury 20 June 1840

13 November1841. There were more examples of the Rose & Thistle mentioned in court cases, but nothing is known of the Inn after 1850, about the time the toll gate was removed.

Supposedly the Toll Gate London Rd
