The original Winn’s Café, called the Oriental circa 1892. By 1920, the Oriental Café was occupying numbers 14, 16, 18 and 20 Market Place. It was later rebuilt on ‘deco’ lines.
Owned by Roland Winn, the café held a full licence (six days) in the upstairs hall, that was granted on the 5th of April 1935.
The licence was transferred to the Turkey Café in Granby Street in February 1955, after the building was taken over by the new Woolworths Department Store.
