GENERAL WOLF, NORTHGATE

The Pub named after General James Wolfe 1727-59 a ‘heroic martyr’ who was killed at the battle of Quebec in 1759 often referred to as the conqueror of Quebec.

The actual date of the pub remains so far unknown

Jan 1813 TO BE LET and entered upon immediately that old well accustomed Public House called GENERAL WOLFE in Northgate St, part of the furniture to be taken at fair valuation, enquire Thomas Barsby tenant who is leaving to enter the manufacturing of worsted.

In February 1814 a similar to let as appeared for the General Wolfe, this time further particulars apply Mrs Hubbard Nags Head Horsepool St.

A directory of 1818 lists William Colver as victualler of the General Wolf in Northgate.
