Listed in a 1822 directory.  Edward Bailey licensee since then and its closure over 20 landlords passed through its doors see (JR)s list of licensees

A To Let advert – ‘old licensed public house’ placed by William Stevenson in 1857 records him being the licensee for the previous sixteen years. Brewed its own ale until supplied by Strettons of Derby
