HELSINKI, 94 RUTLAND STREET

Helsinki Bar, opened 1983 (photo above, 1992) in the old Herbert Marshall music shop.  Retaining the original shop sign, it catered for the ‘alternative’ crowd and was very popular.  It closed for a while in the late 1990s, and reopened as one of Leicester’s Gay bars.  There was a major refit circa 2010, when late night entertainment and the nightclub scene was the order. Sister pub to LBGT, Rainbow & Dove, and Dover Castle.

2013, LBGT flags outside. The Curve theatre in the distance, sadly the Herbert Marshall sign was covered up.
