THE LOUNGE BAR, SAFFRON LANE

Opened in May 2003, after a successful planning application to turn existing premises to a restaurant/bar. The Lounge Bar soon ran into trouble with noise problems for the residents, and further applications in 2005-2006 had restrictions put on the bar.

The Lounge Bar was to suffer from anti-social behaviour with repeated complaints from the residents and on one occasion police were called in the middle of the afternoon to a ‘bar room brawl.’  Objecting to continuation of the licence, the police informed the magistrates court the bar had a history of violence.  The justices agreed, granting an application to close the bar until a new suitable licensee could be found. Surprisingly, it is still trading as of writing.
