VICTORIA CROSS, 152 WHARF STREET

First recorded in October 1870, when the Beerhouse Keepers and Brewers Association met here – G. E. King was landlord.

In February 1875, John Price and Daniel Cox were charged with stealing a pig’s belly belonging to John Smith, plus a sack to put it in, belonging to landlord Thomas Maydwell of the Victoria Cross.

1881, William Major to William Ward – transfer of licence.

1883, James McNeil Stone was landlord.  In December 1884, he applied for a smoking licence, but was refused due to the premises unsuitability.

The Nottingham Imperial Order of Oddfellows would meet here, with an annual dinner in October 1886. The grandmaster would visit in October 1887.

William Jessop was landlord circa 1890-1900. The Victoria Cross closed sometime after 1901.
