FOSSE ROAD TAVERN, 74 CHECKETTS ROAD

Photo above: An evocative photo from the late 1950s with the Fosse Tavern standing on the corner of Checketts Road and Mellor Street.  Originally a beer only house known as the Fosse Road Tavern, the name derives from its part of the road being known as Fosse Rd pre-1879 (the other part Checketts Close).  All was renamed Checketts Road that year.

Inquests were held here 1870s-90s and the pub closed circa 1963.

the pub was bought by Offilers Brewery c1897
