WALKERS STADIUM – KING POWER – LEICESTER CITY FOOTBALL CLUB, FILBERT STREET/FILBERT WAY

In the 1980s, it was the  Fosse Bar at the City.  The club had a full licence but was only really open for corporate events, club members and season ticket holders on match days.

Had to include this, being a life long supporter from my dad taking me down in 1950, sitting me on the front wall next to the pitch, graduating to sitting  on the Gents roof at the back of the Popular side, when 40,000 were crammed in, seeing very little but getting a buzz with the atmosphere.

Love this pic, packed crowd at Filbert St date unknown.

The Walkers Stadium opened in 2002, after moving from the old Filbert Street ground, renamed King Power in 2011, with the acquisition of the club by King Power Holdings and its owner Vichi Srivaddhanaprabha.

A sight to greet all city fans at home matches.

The Stadium has a full licence in its many bars, some open to the public on match days and other events. Leicester City won the Premier League in 2016.

In October 2018, owner and chairman Vichi was tragically killed when his helicopter came down in a ball of flames just outside the ground.

Floral tributes and club shirts from all over the world.
Leicester City’s Andy King laying flowers.

The Fox being the city’s mascot and emblem entices fans to participate.

Murals and street art to the football club can be found around the city. Luke and Libby visit.

Many books have been written on the City, a good source of information is club historian John Hutchinson and his blog.
