THE WHEATSHEAF, 39 GALLOWTREE GATE

First mentioned in tradesmen token  1670, next recorded 1718, Wheatsheaf with address in Gallowtree Gate recorded in recocognizance orders 1726.

Next door to the Robin Hood which has an adjoining entrance, both pubs were put up for sale together in 1845, the Wheatsheaf in the occupation of Mr Randall, Samuel Millard Randall transferred his licence to Richard Underwood Feb 1858.

On the 17th of November 1900, the Wheatsheaf was put up for sale.  It comprised vaults, smoke, kitchen, two cellars, four bedrooms, club room and spirit room.  The licence was not renewed and the on the 10th of October 1901, the pub closed.

The Wheatsheaf stood next to the Robin Hood, pictured (with flag poles), here photographed some time around its closure as a pub.
