REGENCY, 360 LONDON ROAD

Out of town en route towards Oadby this post WWII established Hotel was originally two houses built circa 1901, Coleshill on the left and Crest right. Crest was occupied by Denzil John Jarvis MD of Wadkin Engineering in Leicester who unfortunately was lost in the sinking of the Titanic 1912.

The two houses combined became a Convent after WWII prior to its conversion to an elegant Hotel.

During the 1970s – 2000, the Regency had a very popular bar, entrance on left hand side, one of the few outlets at the time in Leicester selling Banks Bitter, the Hotel at that time had a very good vibe and restaurant superbly run by Hazel I believe her name was it also ran themed nights.

Stars appearing at the DeMont would stay at the Regent such as Jools Holland and his band when they did a two to three night gig there.

The Hotel changed hands circa 2010, from here the reviews were not favourable. As of writing in 2022, sadly the hotel’s reputation as an up-market venue has taken somewhat of a knock.
